The Beth Chaverim Auxiliary
The Auxiliary was formed to take the place of the Men's Club and Sisterhood organizations, both of which ceased to exist as of July 2001. The purpose of the Auxiliary is to serve the congregation and its members by promoting fellowship among the members and supporting the temple's operations. You might be interested to learn about what the Auxiliary has accomplished.

The Auxiliary is responsible for operating the gift shop, which both serves the congregation by making various items of Judaica available and by serving as a source of fundraising. The Auxiliary has also held other fundraisers, including the sale of Beth Chaverim coffee mugs, candle sales, the sale of Entertainment Books, the bagels and coffee that are available on Sunday mornings, and others. As a result of the success of these efforts, the Auxiliary has made substantial cash donations to the temple.

The Auxiliary also supports the religious activities of the temple in a variety of ways. The Auxiliary gives a Kiddush cup and Bible to each Bar and Bat Mitzvah boy and girl. Each Friday evening, members of the Auxiliary set out the ritual items used during Sabbath services. As most of you know, the Auxiliary is in charge of coordinating the Oneg for each Friday evening service. Members of the Auxiliary are present to help set up the Oneg before services, and to assist in clean-up after the service. The Auxiliary also provides the paper products used at the Onegs. The Auxiliary provides certain items for use during Rosh Hashanah and the temple Chanukah party, and it organizes the temple's Passover Seder each year. The Auxiliary also provides financial and organizational support to such activities as potluck dinners that sometimes precede the family Shabbat service, the Jewish Festival, and other social functions.

During the course of the year, the Auxiliary sponsors various social and educational activities, as well. We have had groups attend Admirals and Tides games, plays at the Wells Theater, and plantation tours. We have several Monday evening coffee talks throughout the year, where speakers have presented talks on a wide variety of topics.

We welcome your suggestions and are always looking for volunteers. For more information or to participate, please call Eleanor Lenox at 499-6012 or contact the office at 463-3226.
